Our next Renovation Happy Hour will be held on Tuesday August 30th, 6-8pm at 233 E7th Street. This is two doors away from the junction of 7th and Washington.

We will be looking at a really old historic home which has just made it to the drywall stage of Renovation. We hope to do a follow up visit in a few months when it is completed.

A couple of notable features are the unique facade and the incredible view to Cincinnati from the upper deck.

As always, the East Row will provide refreshments. You are welcome to bring additional food and beverages if you would like to contribute.

I bought the house looking to do a simple renovation. It became a huge project as we realized during demo that much of the wood was bad and needed to be replaced. So, quite a bit of the inside and external rear of the home is re-framed now with new wood. A good surprise was that when we started to take the front siding off of the house, we found that the original builders had used a technique that is very rare here called “rustication". Rustication is a manner of treating the exterior of a wooden building to make it look like it is made of stone. The effect is achieved by cutting and beveling the wooden siding boards at regular intervals to simulate stone blocks. If you've ever been to Indiana University's Bloomington campus, many of the school's buildings use limestone and this is a similar look, but of course with wood. 

The home will end up with all new plumbing, HVAC, and electric. 4 bedrooms (including one of the first floor for ease of access for the homeowner or a mother-in-law suite of sorts), 3.5 baths. 2 decks with view of the skyline...one off the 2nd floor master, 1 off the wet bar area on the 3rd floor.
