Scott Fleckinger, an East Row Resident, describes his over the top Man Cave as follows:
“I bought the building, a former auto repair shop at 522 Washington, the day before I closed on the sale of my own auto repair business. My concept was to build a home for my auto collection; being an antique car devotee, I wanted to bring back the glory days of the building.
The structure was totally gutted, pressure washed and painted from top to bottom. The concrete floors were covered with epoxy pebbled flooring throughout. All the mechanicals, including electrical, plumbing, roofing , HVAC and two garage doors were replaced and upgraded with the latest technology. However this brief description barely touched upon all the myriad improvements, changes and upgrades that were carried out.
I was especially excited about the large, round ‘Gulf’ sign. Recognizing the shape, I was anxious to strip off all the many layers of paint to examine its underlying condition, which, to my surprise was excellent. So unspoiled, in fact, that its hues provided the basis for the interior color scheme.”
Scott’s auto collection includes two vehicles which could easily serve as props for a Hollywood movie, both too beautiful to take out on the highway. Come step through a time warp at the next Renovation Happy Hour; 6-8 PM, Thursday, September 21st, 2023, snacks and libations provided.
